About this deal

IS is a super telephoto zoom that is equivalent to 200-800mm when attached to a Micro Four Thirds body. on the Panasonic corresponds to about 342mm on the Olympus (at a distance of about 2m); at a greater distance, the difference disappears, though. Personally I will always want a long focal length zoom as the benefits it offers my photography are so much, There is no doubt in my mind that this is the perfect lens for the serious wildlife and sports photographer so hats off to Olympus / JIP for delivering what we want. IS is a super-telephoto lens with focal length range of 200-800mm (35mm equivalent) and is perfect for olympus photographers looking for a portable zoom lens with superb performance. They tend to be more affordable than these types of lenses, too, though with an understandable trade-off in terms of raw sharpness.

My big complaint though is the size of the setup is pretty unwieldy, and I'm a bit jealous of the hybrid stabilization that Olympus has. It weighs in at 1120g and measures 206mm when retracted compared with the Panasonic lens at 951g and 172mm long. But shooting outdoors can be a different proposition, particularly on a windy day that’s buffeting your lens as well as your subject. It’s possible I’d break it in overtime, but at times it was very irritating especially when I wanted to compare the focal lengths but the heron would sadly decide to leave in the meantime. In fact, it's only about two-thirds the weight of Canon's own equivalent length, and as such is our pick for the top 100-400mm optic for Canon EF users.I honestly did not look so closely at the example of the diffraction as it went by pretty quickly and I kinda just assumed they new what they were talking about when the said the image quality degraded past f8. It’s two-thirds of an f/stop slower than its rival at 100mm, it is considerably larger and heavier and lacks some useful features found on the Panasonic. Along the way, he's shot extensively with cameras and lenses of almost every imaginable type, brand and format.

Like I said at the time, things are on the up for us as Olympus photographers and we can continue to nail amazing images with new and innovative tech. I also found that the in-lens stabilization for my lens copy worked better than the Oly in-body stabilization.Tactile Separation of Zoom and MF rings– Tactile separation of Focus and Zoom rings on Olympus is just excellent. A number of my photographs were awarded at local and overseas competitions such as the Czech Press Photo, Nature's Best Photography, Bird Photographer of the Year, Sony World Photography Awards, Big Picture Awards, Nactus Awards or the most acclaimed one - the Wildlife Photographer of the Year. I experienced some of the same issues you mentioned with that lens and so in 2018 bought the Oly 300 f4 with TC14 and was delighted with the obvious upgrade in quality, brightness and image detail. The Micro Four Thirds format, championed by OM Digital Solutions (formerly Olympus Cameras) and Panasonic Lumix, is well supported when it comes to lens choice – especially with telephoto lenses, where the format’s 2x crop factor is a big selling point.

Photos of test charts are taken across the range of apertures and zooms (where available), then analyzed for sharpness, distortion and chromatic aberrations. The optical path is upgraded and includes a top-notch FLD (‘Fluorite’ Low Dispersion) element, in addition to four SLD (Special Low Dispersion) elements.

These insurance polices are designed to meet the demands and needs of those who wish to insure their item, for example, digital camera and/or camera accessories, against breakdown and accidental damage. The lens is generally able to capture good levels of detail, though as born out by our lab tests (below) the sharpness is a little disappointing –and obviously degrades the longer your chosen focal length. Despite the impressive range, the lens is extremely compact at just 205mm long and lightweight enough to bring anywhere, making it ideal for wildlife, action and sports photographers. This is good news to videographers, but unlikely to affect stills photography so much, as roll movement only really causes blur at much slower shutter speeds than one would use hand-held with this lens. You' re given a product for a couple of days, some guys for a few days more, and you have to deliver some kind of review.Facebook Live - I will be talking about the lens with the Clare's from OlympusUK and sport pro Mike Inkley on 17th November at 4pm GMT on the Olympus Facebook page. Just follow the simple instructions, entering your personal details as required and we'll do the rest.
