About this deal

Here’s an overview of specs for the GPD XP Plus and the original GPD XP, with differences highlighted in bold:

Nintendo: NES, Super Nintendo,Game Boy Advance, Game Boy, Game Boy Colour,N64,Nintendo DS, GameCube, WiiNext is the turn of the SEGA Saturn emulator Yabasanshiro. We tried a few different games and the performance is very good. Playing through the race we, are getting 60 frames per second with no visible slow down. We did see the frames drop very rarely to say 58 for a split second, but you would not notice unless you had the FPS showing. Mupen64Plus Emulator It couldn’t quite emulate all of the consoles that it boasted on the menu selection screen, and the build quality didn’t instil the same level of faith that you get when whipping out your 3DS and cruising through your best Nintendo 3DS games. If the OS stays current and the gameplay smooth, then this will be an absolute beauty to play. The original XD Plus came with MT8176+PowerVR Hexa-core processor, 4GB RAM and 32Gb Storage, which twinned with the right OS would make for the kind of super-smooth play that dreams are made of. We think that we might see the RAM increased to 8GB as stated above if the info we have is true and the storage increased to at least 64GB for holding all of your favourite titles. Console Emulation The GPD XP is an Android-powered handheld gaming device featuring a 6.8 inch touchscreen display surrounded by came controllers – but the controller on the right side is modular, allowing you to swap out controls depending on the type of game you’re playing. We would be willing to bet on the fact that the new GPD XD 2 will come with USB-C fast charging and an increased battery size of maybe 8000MAH, falling in line with the battery size of the PSP.

It might even be able to act as a power bank for other USB-C devices too – now that would be something. WiFi CapabilitiesHorizon Chase is another game that has built in support for gamepads. The game blazes along at a great frame rate and I did not have any issues at all. Genshin Impact Genshin Impact Mobile with controller support PlayStation will work with no issues at all on the GPD XP Plus retro games handheld. There are different RetroArch cores you can use which have all kinds of filters and upscaling which you can use to improve the visuals. PPSSPP Emulator – PlayStation Portable

Storage has also been upgraded from UFS 2.1 to UFS 3.1 for faster data transfer speeds. And wireless capabilities have been bumped up from WiFi 5 to WiFi 6. Genshin Impact does require screen mapping to play the game with the gamepad. There are plenty of buttons for the gameplay, but you will need to use the touchscreen for the menus and maps for example. The start of the game is a bit quiet for action, but everything seems to be running very smoothly, and it also looks amazing on the display. Final ThoughtsOn paper and in practice, the XD Plus worked very well but felt a little underwhelming. This handheld should have been a game-changer, but to this day it still has that marmite ‘love-hate’ factor. The controller you will use the majority of the time is the standard Xbox style controller. There is one with five buttons that can be used for shortcut style buttons in games. There is an end cap if you do not wish to use either module. GPD XP Plus Technical Specifications CPU Is the GPD XP Plus worth it? That’s hard to say. Every year we see companies release a plus version, which is pretty much the same thing with some slight modifications. In this case, GPD has improved the internal specs. The original GPD XP struggled with higher-end emulation. These changes, then, should offer up more compatibility. We’re big fans of the shape of the console and it emulates many games perfectly, giving retro gaming fans a chance to relive some of their favourite titles at home and on the go. But, having said that, there were and still are some major firmware issues, and the Android software the console uses is now way outdated.

A lot of people wanted to see a touch screen or dual-screen layout on the GPD XD 2, but we’re confident that this won’t be happening. There’s no real need unless you’re playing DS/Switch games, apart from maybe having the map of the world that you’re exploring on the bottom. But as most games aren’t set up for 2-screen action, we’re going to debunk this rumour right now. Charging For owners of the GPD XP, the GPD XP Plus doesn’t seem worth the upgrade. There isn’t enough that’s new here to justify it. But for people coming in new, well, there’s the Ayn Loki or the Aya Neo Air, and for those looking to save, there’s the Evercade Exp. Given that, it looks as though the GPD XP isn’t really designed with emulation in mind. Rather for native Android gaming and in particular FPS and MOBA type games. It’s a shame, even a 16:9 screen could have helped to bridge the disparity between these two gaming worlds. However, if you’re part of the target demographic then this form factor is probably quite enticing. GPD XP SPECS Overall the level of emulation is very good on the GPD XP +. There are plenty of PlayStation 2 games to enjoy, and I think with Citra that may be an issue with that version of the emulator rather than performance of the GPD XP Plus. Don’t forget there are alternative emulators out there, some of which may work better than others for certain games. Android Games PerformanceThat is quite the list, and whenever any of us see GameCube, PS2, and Wii, it’s hard not to get excited. Well in 2022, GPD Is looking to continue its Android gaming handheld, the GPD XP series, with a new member added to the family, the GPD XP Plus. GPD XP Plus With a faster and smoother operating system, online play will be perfect. Come on, GPD; this Android OS needs to be spot-on this time! Final Thoughts. . . The short version: The XP Plus is a more powerful version of the GPD XP. Whether that extra power is worth it, will be up for owners to decide. GPD XP Plus Release Date One of the main problems that the GPD XD 2 needs to overcome is the firmware it uses to play the vast catalogue of games available to it.
