When Atalanta is older, Artemis, the goddess of the hunt and wilderness, comes for her. The Arcadian wood becomes Atalanta’s new home, where she’s surrounded by the nymphs. Marvel Studios Boss Kevin Feige Talks Captain America: The Winter Soldier Spoilers and What's in Store for the Marvel Cinematic Universe". IGN. April 16, 2014 . Retrieved April 16, 2014.

I shuddered. “He won’t want to kill a little boy, though, surely?” I could understand the brutal logic of it, but I couldn’t bring myself to picture the young men I’d seen in that hall plunging a sword into a weeping child. Our father, Tyndareus, wrung his hands. The day had started out so promisingly for him; our storerooms overflowed with the rich gifts each young man had brought to support his own cause. I had seen him gloat over the loot and the status this glorious day had brought him. Blithely, he had placed all of his confidence in the ability of our brawny brothers to protect us as they had always done, but I had to doubt even their proficiency against the number of men who had come here to win my sister today. So, Menelaus would get the prize of Helen and Agamemnon would have the city. No doubt that seemed a fair bargain to them both. I'm torn on this one, because I loved the plot and the outline and it definitely takes a good writer to craft that out of scraps of mythology (Atalanta is usually only mentioned in passing, if at all) but just wasn't too keen on the deliverance when it got to the details. I'm tempted to take a closer look at Saint's other work though.

The writing is obviously amazing. The beginning and the end were impossible to put down, I loved it, it made me feel like I was there, with the characters. In a world ruled by temperamental, petulant gods, Ariadne is a shining beacon of female strength and courage—making this a story that’s impossible to forget.”—Culturefly As part of the 2012 Marvel NOW! branding, Elektra becomes a member of Red Hulk's Thunderbolts. (director); Lauren Schmidt Hissrich & Marco Ramirez (writer) (August 18, 2017). "Mean Right Hook". The Defenders. Season 1. Episode 2. Netflix. It was kind of disheartening to read (in the subtext) that it was the goddess' influence that turned Atalanta into THE hunter when in the actual myth it was the girl herself. Uppendahl, Michael (director); Whit Anderson (writer) (March 18, 2016). "Guilty as Sin". Daredevil. Season 2. Episode 8. Netflix. A girl was born, and the King exposed her on the mountain, a mother bear raised her, she grew strong on bear milk and learned to wrestle with bear siblings, then Artemis came for her, and gave her to the nymphs to raise her in the forest of Arcadia. She got strong, fast, and fearless, her name is Atalanta. The writing wasn't bad but also not anything special. That, combined with the boredom I felt while reading most of the book is why I've decided not to read any other of the author's books. Don't get me wrong: this isn't BAD, but it should have been a novella at most. So much was just filler material and all over the place. Some messages were poignant but more were a bit out there or hyperbolical.

It is another feminist story, and these women are by no means shrinking violets. The wives, daughters, and mothers created their own brand of magic and menace as we learned of the dangers and terrible atrocities committed, by them, in the name of love, survival and revenge. Women who carried a grudge: unforgiving and unrelenting. However, I loved the portrayal and depth of Agamemnon’s character in the book – not likeable but it was great to see more depth and colour to this very powerful character in Greek mythology. I shook my head, as though I could dislodge the idea altogether. It would all change, even more so. A hundred men had come to marry her; the next one would take Menelaus’ place in an instant. Elektra was born on a Greek island near the Aegean Sea, to Hugo Kostas Natchios and Christina Natchios. She had an older brother named Orestez. [ citation needed]Innocent lives, women whose names would never be remembered like his, sacrificed in the flames that forged a hero's destiny. Though the title would have you thinking this story is centered on one woman, it actually follows three separate women during the time of the Trojan War. Clytemnestra, wife of Agamemnon and mother of Elektra, was by far my favorite of the storylines. I was instantly swept up in her narrative and felt sympathy and heartbreak for her plight. We also follow Cassandra, a princess of Troy with the gift of foresight but the curse that none would believe her. While she isn't a big character in mythology, her story is definitely interesting. I could see that every man in the room was imagining it. They had all envisaged being the one to have her, but Odysseus had soured the dream. They gazed up at him, enrapt, waiting for him to reveal the solution to the conundrum he had presented. In this universe, she starts out as a sweet, innocent girl who cares deeply for her loved ones– so deeply that she is willing to go over dead bodies to help them. This trait starts her descent into becoming one of the most deadly assassins in the world. [ volume&issueneeded] There is more character development in Atalanta than I saw in Elektra, and for me that was a good sign.
