About this deal

Dulux Diamond Eggshell is a very good paint for bathroom ceilings but in my opinion, is just slightly too expensive to justify paying for, especially with better yet cheaper options on the market. Gone are the days of plain white flat ceilings in every room of the home. Today’s design trends are leaning towards big and bold in the ways of color, texture and even pattern. To complement the area’s light and airy elements, the rustic brown painted living room ceiling works nicely in this setting. The space can feel a little cosier and more intimate without being overly dark by using dark ceiling paint schemes. To improve the image, you can choose any darker shade that suits your needs and preferences, such as deep blue or green. With that in mind, I would highly recommend purchasing Dulux Trade Diamond Eggshell if you’re looking for the best Dulux ceiling paint. We did this project before the room had walls (what you see is the spray foam insulation) or floors or anything, which was perfect because it would make a big mess otherwise. We just masked off the windows and the open spots where the light fixtures were going.

Choosing the right paint is your first step towards the best way to paint a ceiling. White is a popular colour for ceilings and it pays to consider different formulations to suit your particular needs. For example, Dulux Ultra White is a tough emulsion paint that works with light-reflective particles to significantly brighten a room and enhance a feeling of spaciousness. Dulux Magic White Matt helps to give your ceiling a professional touch with a formula that fades from pink to white in under an hour, ensuring you don’t miss a spot. The ceiling of your home takes on a whole new appeal in this living room when it is painted with lovely flowers right above the chandelier. A wonderfully opulent room is created by the harmonious interaction of all these colours of pink, purple, and green in this stunning example of ceiling paint ideas. A more grounded environment can be achieved by painting the walls or the lower half of the walls a darker colour, while painting the upper section and ceiling a lighter colour to add height and a sense of space. As my go-to bathroom ceiling paint, I’ve personally used this a million times (ok, not literally) and have never encountered any sort of problem and, most importantly, customers have never reported a problem after it has been applied. This is a legitimate question that a lot of people are concerned with when they think about painting their ceiling a darker color. The design myth that’s been going around for as long as I can remember is that dark paint colors tend to make rooms appear smaller. As you can probably tell, there are plenty of options on the market and the best ceiling paint for bathrooms very much depends on your personal situation.

Revitalise your ceilings with our selection of ceiling paints for style, protection and easy application

One coat may suffice, depending on the previous condition of your ceiling and the paint used, but follow the manufacturer’s instructions on the can, leave to dry for the required time and then make a judgement call on whether a second coat is needed. Any other tips? I only did one coat on this project, because we didn’t feel like anyone was going to be looking super closely to notice any drips, so I wasn’t afraid to go somewhat heavy on it.

Highly versatile, durable, covers in 2 coats and looks great – this should be your go-to bathroom ceiling paint. If you really have a hankering for gloss ceilings then it’s not impossible, but it will require a lot more legwork and preparation if you want good-looking results. The ceilings will need to be sealed with a suitable sealant, and you’ll want to combine a water-based gloss paint with an extender, a product that dilutes the gloss paint and allows for easier, smoother application. Bear in mind, though, that the glossy sheen will show up every imperfection in your ceilings, so if you want a gleaming skating rink effect on your ceilings, you may need to enlist the help of a professional decorator. Has great flow straight out of the tin meaning you can easily apply it without leaving roller marks. Keeping the basement ceiling open means that we have access to a lot of the HVAC ducts, plumbing, and electrical in our house. Especially with all of the projects that we’re doing, having those things easy to access has been such a blessing. In the future, if something breaks or we just want to change something, it’s easier to deal with if everything is accessible. 3. AestheticsKey specs – Size: 10 litres; Finish: Matt; Drying time: 2 hours; Recoat time: 4 hours; Coats required: 2; Colour availability: 65 No, we did not use any primer, and we painted right over the joists, wires, ducts, and pipes. I’m not a professional at any of this, so you can go ahead and prime if a pro tells you to and you want to! I will say, so far we haven’t had issues with peeling or flaking, and it has been almost 2 years. Fingers crossed for the future, of course! But I also feel like touch-ups would be pretty straightforward. How has the painted ceiling held up? How about on pipes and HVAC? Painted ceilings are great for open plan spaces and home extensions, they act as a great zoning tool to create different areas in an open space. It's also a great solution for making a living area feel more cosy and intimate while still remaining airy and open.

Painting ceilings has the potential to cause a lot of mess and potentially damage your precious carpets and furnishings beyond repair, so it pays to be prepared. Even specialist paints that are designed not to drip or spatter will do exactly that if your brush or roller is overloaded.

Of course, to set off the dark shades of your room, you’ll want to focus on furniture and decoration. In terms of durability, you can expect this paint to last at least 6 years and in most cases, you could even be looking at 10 years before you need to refresh it. This of course depends on your bathroom environment. Touch dry after one to three hours, the manufacturer recommends two coats, the second applied at least four hours after the first. The clue is in its name: anti-mould paint is a paint formulated to resist and inhibit mould growth on your ceilings. If you’ve had trouble with mould in the past, have fully removed it and want to prevent it from growing again then it’s worth considering using an anti-mould paint that contains fungicides to kill mould immediately.

When it comes to retail paint, professional decorators tend to shy away from even trying them but every now and again a retail paint will come along that performs just like trade paint. In this instance, I’m talking about Dulux’s Easycare bathroom paint. I will be the first to admit that I was super hesitant to paint over our already gorgeous planked ceiling, but I also knew that this one change was going to help me tie this entire design plan together.Ready to start? First up, clear your room and lay down drop sheets to protect the floor. If you have furniture that you can’t move, push it into the middle of the room and cover it with a sheet. If it’s possible to remove parts of any fixtures, like elaborate light fittings, do this too. Have all your tools within easy reach, pop on your favourite music and get set to make your ceiling shine. But with any spraying project, you’re going to deal with a bit of mess and overspray, and given that this one was above my head, I knew it was going to be worse than usual. If you’re going to spray a ceiling, it’s important to protect yourself. Other dark colors that have been adapted by designers for ceilings include graphite and charcoal gray, grays with a bluish hue, silver grays, and of course navy. Dark tones combined with bright white or other bold colors are a brave way to be creative and add personality. Always make sure there’s plenty of ventilation in the room you’re painting and wear protective goggles – after all, you’ll be staring straight up at the paint you’re applying. Always stir your paint well before use and regularly during use too to keep it properly mixed. And, after use, clean brushes or rollers completely and secure any remaining paint safely away from where children and pets can access it. Wondering how durable it is? It is formulated to be able to withstand cleaning in hospital environments and can even be applied on walls and ceilings where swimming pools are present – it’s truly tough as old boots.
